The novel is set in the little town of Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1966. Mel is a young teen that wears sleeveless t-shirts, blue jeans, high-top Converse sneakers, and throws a really mean curveball. Mel also happens to be a girl trying to deal with her dad’s death and a mother that can’t handle it. She is also the only one who can figure out where debris is hidden that came from a UFO crash that happened outside Roswell, New Mexico back in 1947. The Air Force wants it to keep their cover-up of the crash, and the KGB would kill her for it because it is such a technological goldmine—but Mel is driven to find it because she knows it is her father’s last wish.
Hoaxes Roswell explores how a young girl solves a mystery while dealing with a father’s death, a mother’s mourning, a house fire, abduction, spaceships, spies, hoaxes…and first love.
